Joseph Wallace "Joe" Frey, age 65 of Oshkosh, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday evening, February 7th, 2004 in Phoenix, Arizona as the result of a car accident. He was born on December 5th, 1938 in Oshkosh, a son of the late Wallace and Katherine (Sitzberger) Frey. After graduating from Oshkosh High School, Joe proudly served his country in the US Marine Corps. He married the former Jeanne Osterhoff on October 14, 1967 in Oshkosh. Jeanne preceded him in death on May 19, 1982. Joe was one of the founding members of the Otter Street Fishing Club, was a Rockwell International retiree, and a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. He was an active member of the Elks, BPOE Lodge # 292 of Oshkosh, having been past Exalted Ruler of the Lodge. Joe greatly enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping, cribbage and the camaraderie of others.
Survivors include a son, Mark Frey of Roscoe, Illinois; a daughter, Angela Frey of Oshkosh; a brother, Stephen (Susan) Frey of New London; a sister, Theresa (Vincent) Coyle of Carson City, Nevada; an uncle, Robert (Dee Ann) Sitzberger of Milwaukee; three nieces, Mary Hodges of Charlotte, North Carolina, Lisa (Jason) Newburger of Canton, Georgia and Stephanie Frey of Chicago, Illinois. He is further survived by other relatives and many dear friends. He was preceded in death by his wife and a sister, Eunice McLendon.
Funeral services for Joe will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 14, 2004 at the Seefeld Family of Funeral Chapels, 300 N. Eagle Street, with Fr. Robert Stegmann officiating and Sister Judy Miller assisting. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the funeral chapel on Friday evening from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and also on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. There will be a service by the BPOE Lodge #292 at 5:30 p.m. Friday. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established.
