Obituary

Joseph Vowels, Jr. died on July 31, 2015, at the age of 78, at Aurora Medical Center in Oshkosh. He was born August 11, 1936, in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, the son of the late Joseph Vowels and Florence (Nee) Petri. He was made a child of God through holy baptism on March 5, 1944 and was confirmed in the faith at Grace Ev. Lutheran Church, Oshkosh, Wisconsin on April 2 1950. Joseph graduated from Oshkosh High School in 1954. He served in the U.S. Army 1959-1961. Joseph married his beloved wife, the former Grace Retzlaff on February 17, 1962 and kept faithful to his vows and oath to God until his death. He was blessed with a faithful and loving wife and children, Gary (Debra) Vowels of Omro, Wisconsin and Denise (Steve) Riegert of Lake Mary, Florida; five grandchildren, Amanda (Bryant) Long, Bradley (Fiancée Hannah Egan) and Lindsey Vowels of Omro and Meagan (Fiancé Mike Tilley) and Gina Riegert of Lake Mary, Florida; brothers, Richard (Birdie) Vowels, Melvin (Betty) Vowels; sisters, Arlene (Roger) Chapin, Sharon (John) Jones, , and numerous in laws, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Joseph was a member of Grace Ev. Lutheran Church, Omro, Wisconsin, and was active in Choir where he enjoyed singing his praises to God. He was past President, Vice President, Recording Secretary, Elder, Sunday School teacher, Stewardship Board, Financial Counting Committee and Vice President of Branch 2152, Aid Association for Lutherans for 15 years. Joseph was employed by Oshkosh Truck Corporation for 43 years until his retirement in 1998. Joseph loved his Lord and is now walking hand in hand with Him and doing what he loved to do on earth (Singing His Praises).Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 4, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Grace Ev. Lutheran Church, 720 Jackson St., Omro, with Rev. Richard Bartholomew officiating. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery, Town of Poygan. Friends may call at the church on Monday, August 3, 2015 from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. and on Tuesday, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established. The family would like to thank the Doctors and Nursing Staff of 2 West at Aurora Medical Group for their loving care and support for Joe and our family. We would also like to thank the hospice staff for their love and support.
