Joyce A. Rasey, age 84, of Madison and formerly of Oshkosh, died Saturday, August 2, 2014, at Karmenta Center in Madison. Born on November 5, 1929, in Oshkosh to Clifford and Carrie (Johnson) Hawley, Joyce married Francis Rasey and he preceded her in death on February 16, 1995.
Employed as a cook with the Oshkosh Public School System for 20 years before retiring in 1994, Joyce enjoyed baking for her family and was known to throw the "family picnic" for her many siblings, nieces, nephews, and other extended family members. She especially enjoyed getting together with her sisters for the weekly Thursday card party. Joyce was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ.
Survivors include her children, Laurie Rasey of Oshkosh, Donna (Don Smith) King of Madison, and David Rasey of Oshkosh; grandchildren, Jennifer (Kim) Peterson, Christina (Daniel Dobbins) Bryson, Joseph (Megan) Rasey, Nathan (Cathy Keller) Montalvo, Caroline (Ace) Rheaume, Alyssa Montalvo, and Cody Smith; great-grandchildren, Arionna, Madelynn, Talon, Alexis, Elizabeth, Alayna, Meagan, Logan, Violet, Mary, Shayla, Micahila, Miguel, and Julianna; her siblings, Alice Wachtveitl, Jean Behnke, Doris Bounds, Ruth Anderson, Kathryn (Ray) Tice, Janet Himmler, Carol Frank, David Hawley, and Jerry Hawley; a special sister-in-law, Betty Hawley; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Preceding Joyce in death is her husband, a son, Richard "Rick" Rasey, a grandson, William J. King, four brothers, Donald, Wayne, Richard, and Kenneth Hawley.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 6, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. in St. Paul United Church of Christ, 1250 Leonard Point Road, with Reverend RaeAnn Beebe officiating. Entombment will follow the services at Lake View Memorial Park. A time of visiting and sharing of memories will take place on Tuesday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Seefeld Funeral Chapels, 1025 Oregon Street and on Wednesday at the church from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. A special thank you to the staff of Karmenta Center and Agrace Hospice Care for the gentle care and kindness shown to Joyce and her family.
