Joyce M. Smerling, age 85, of Oshkosh, passed away on Wednesday, March 5, 2014. She was born in the Town of Nekimi on December 11, 1928, the daughter of the late Carl and Lydia (Krug) Schiefelbein. On June 11, 1949 she married Raymond Smerling of Omro. He preceded her in death on March 19, 1972. Joyce was a member of Grace Lutheran Church her entire life. She enjoyed dancing, playing bingo and spending time with friends and relatives, and caring for her home.
Joyce is survived by many nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brothers: Elmer (Marcella) and Lloyd (Lorraine) Schiefelbein.
The funeral service will be at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 9, 2014 at the funeral home (1025 Oregon St., Oshkosh) with Rev. Jeffrey Duquaine officiating. Friends will be received at the funeral home on Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be in Ellenwood Cemetery.
In lieu of Flowers, a memorial has been established or Grace Lutheran Church, Oshkosh.
