Joyce E. Smith, age 84, of Oshkosh, died Thursday evening, January 15, 2009 at Northpoint Medical & Rehabilitation Center. Born on February 22, 1924 in Columbus, Ohio to Charles and Victoria (Rausch) Manson, Joyce married the love of her life, Irving Smith on July 17, 1945 in San Francisco, California. Irving preceded Joyce in death on April 2, 1992.
An employee of 25 years for Motorola and later Quasar, Joyce worked her way up the company ladder until becoming the Office Manager, for the Television Distribution Center, at the time of her retirement. She was an active member of the Senior Citizen Center, arranging travel trips for the center members, being an avid traveler herself. Joyce also managed the Senior Citizen's Gift Shop. The Silver Foxes Dance Club and bowling were favorite pastimes for Joyce.
Left to mourn her passing are five children, Sharon (Ralph) Snopek of Ranger, Georgia, Charles (Patricia) Smith of Elkhorn, Wisconsin, Warren (Debra) Smith of Cary, Illinois, Dennis (Rosemary) Smith of Oshkosh, and Vicki (Bryan) Muery of Katy, Texas; eight grandchildren, Robert (Pam) Snopek, Shelley (Mickey) Lipsey, Janelle (Mark) Schimke, Michelle (Rodney) Knull, Nathan Smith, Joshua Theimeyer, Benjamin Theimeyer, Jessica Smith, Chase Muery, and Briana Muery; and seven great-grandchildren. Preceding Joyce in death are her husband and parents.
A service to remember Joyce's life will be held on Monday, January 19, 2009, at 10:00 a.m. in Seefeld Family of Funeral Chapels, 300 North Eagle Street. A time of visitation and sharing of memories will be held from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral chapel.
