Julie Faith Canarr (nee Helmers), age 62, our beautiful wife, mother, and daughter passed away on December 22, 2023, after a valiant battle against Glioblastoma brain cancer. Julie was born on June 8, 1961, in Milwaukee to Harold and Margaret (Hasenberg) Helmers. Julie possessed a warm and nurturing spirit, and she had an easy laugh about herself. She was continuously a source of strength and caregiving to her family when times were good or difficult. She helped care for her father while in hospice and did the same when Brian, father of her sons, was diagnosed with cancer.
Julie is survived by her husband, Charles; sons, Cody and Luke (Autumn) Brueggemann; beloved granddaughter, Iyla; and stepdaughter, Kaleen. Julie was devoted to her sons, and the years she spent raising Luke and Cody were the most fulfilling and satisfying of her life. Many hours were spent on the bleachers cheering them on. She adored them as boys and grew even more proud as she saw the men they became.
Julie could be counted on to host delicious holiday meals. She was a lover of dogs, camping, RVing, cruises, thrifting, watching the Green Bay Packers, listening to country music and the occasional polka dance. She was a 1979 graduate of Germantown Washington High School. Prior to her diagnosis, Julie was employed at Oshkosh Correctional Institution as a Financial Specialist Senior and at the Wisconsin Resource Center as an Office Operations Associate. Before that, she was the co-owner of Rosco's Bar & Eatery in Mercer, WI.
Julie was a spiritual woman and chosen Godmother to Jeremy, Tamara, Danielle, and Clay. She was especially loving to her nephew, Spencer. Her memory lives on through her mother, Margaret; siblings, Scott, Holly, and Amy (David Allen); and many cherished nieces; nephews; relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by brother, Daniel; father, Harold; sister-in-law, Stephanie; and father of her sons, Brian Brueggemann. Special thanks to Julie's irreplaceable friend, Kim Chapin, who enriched her life and inherently knew what Julie needed as her health failed.
A visitation will be held at St. Mary's Church, 730 Madison Ave, Omro, Wisconsin, on Friday, December 29, 2023, from 9:00am to 11:00am, with Mass to follow. Final interment at Mercer Cemetery will be held at a later date.
If desired, memorials may be directed to Luke Brueggemann for use toward Julie's headstone monument.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Compassus Hospice for all their care and compassion during her transition.
