Obituary
Kathleen "Kathy" Ann Hales, age 80, passed away peacefully on October 11, 2024 at the Country Villa in Omro with her children at her side.
Kathy was born on October 21, 1943 to Clifford and Rose Hales at their home in Waupaca. She graduated in 1961 from Waupaca High School and began her career at Winnebago Mental Health Institute, Oshkosh. She retired at age 56 and proceeded to live out a fulfilling retirement.
Living on the Fox River, Kathy was an avid fisherlady and could outfish most men. She even made her own jigs.
Summers were spent fishing in Canada, fall time was spent in the northwoods, and winters in Leesburg, FL. Kathy loved traveling, including Mexico, Jamaica, Holbox, and Belize. She was always on the move.
Kathy had many talents including sewing knitting, woodcarving, gardening, canning and cooking homemade meals.
She enjoyed the simple things in life like reading a book, watching the birds, or working in her perennial gardens. Kathy was a hardworking, loving mother who was always willing to help out with anything.
Kathy was a strong, determined and independent woman setting a great example to her children, teaching them good work ethic.
Kathy is survived by her children, Tony Gutsmeidl and Tracey Gutsmeidl (Kurt Peterson); sisters, JoAnn Rice, Tudy Kronaeur and Dolly (Randy) Bremmer; and brothers, Tim (Carla) Hales and Pat (Beth) Hales.
She is preceded by her parents, Clifford and Rose Hales; brothers, Jerry Hales and Dickie Hales; and her boyfriend of over 40 years, Don Hanson.
The family would like to offer a thank you to all of the staff at Country Villa and the wonderful care team with St. Croix Hospice. A very special thank you to Christa Rilling for all of her support and her son, Tony who gave her his full support throughout her journey at the Country Villa.
Kathy's smile, sense of humor and a little smirk will be greatly missed by many friends and family.
