Kathryn P. Harvey, age 89, of Evergreen Manor in Oshkosh, died Monday, April 19, 2004 following an accidental fall, which resulted in a severe brain hemorrhage. Kathryn was born in Indiana in 1915, the daughter of a Methodist minister. She graduated from Indiana University with a degree in Education and Music. Kathryn taught high school English in Oshkosh for 25 years and was an accomplished musician on both the organ and piano, often substituted as the organist for Algoma Methodist Church in Oshkosh until her eyesight prevented her from continuing to provide the music that she so loved.
In 1938 Kathryn married Reverend Elmer Harvey, a Methodist minister, who was active in his ministry for over 40 years, and involved with many church and community services. She was a member of Algoma United Methodist Church for many years and an active member of PEO Sisterhood, United Methodist Women, and the Pricilla Circle.
Kathryn is survived by her husband, Elmer, whom she was very happily married to for 66 years; two daughters: Susan (Lloyd) Flanders of Del Mar, California; Sally (James Malson) Rathert of Neenah; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren: Scott (Julie) Flanders of Ann Harbor, Michigan and their children, Tess and Collin; Stacy Smith of San Diego, California; Heidi (Tom) Martin of Wawautosa and their children, Emma Kathryn and Thomas; John (Turi) Rathert of Winchester, Wisconsin. She was a greatly loved wife, mother, and grandmother who will be cherished and solely missed by all who knew her.
A memorial service will by held on Saurday, April 24, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. in Algoma Blvd. United Methodist Church, 1174 Algoma Blvd., in Oshkosh. Reverend Merlin Hoeft will officiate. Kathryn's family will greet guests at a reception in Paine Hall following the service. A memorial service is being planned at Evergreen Retirement Community at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family has established a memorial fund in her name to the Evergreen Retirement Community for the Care Assured Fund.
