Obituary

Kenneth P. Janiak, son of Raymond and Audrey Janiak of Omro, died November 17, 2009 in Alexandria, VA., He was 62 years old.

Surviving Ken are his wife of 31 years, the former Doris Brown, whom he met while serving in the Army Reserve, four children: Adrian Saunders, Holly Johnson, Melanie Sartain and Chuck Janiak; five grandchildren: Emma, Zavyer, Garrett, Dagan and Corbin. He is also survived by three sisters: Kris Phillipp, Teresa Irvin and Jackie Wyandt. He was preceded in death by a brother, Andrew.

Ken attended Seton Hall University and received a Bachelor of Science degree in 1969, where he was a member of Scabbard and Blade, a military honor society. He earned a Master of Business Administration from George Washington University in 1982.

Commissioned as a Second Lieutenant upon graduation from Seton Hall, Ken served in the Army in the United States, Korea and Germany. He served in the Army Reserve for a time and was released from service with the rank of Captain. He received the Meritorious Service Medal and the Army Commendation Medal with oak leaf cluster.

As a civil servant he worked for the National Park Service, The Department of the Army,
The Department of Equal Opportunity Commission and retired from federal service in 2003.

As a civilian he worked on a project to dismantle obsolete ships at Tessada and Company; The Wexford Group, which supplies technology to American soldiers in Irag and Afghanistan and at LMI Government Consulting until a return of cancer forced him to retire.

As an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, he was a friend to those he served and to those who served him.

His children and grandchildren were his greatest joys and he enjoyed fishing, family camping, shooting and genealogy.

Burial for Kenneth will occur January 25, 2010 at Arlington National Cemetery.

A memorial service will take place Tuesday, December 29, 2009 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Omro, WI, at 11 A.M. Members of the family will be at the church from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service for visitation with friends and local relatives.
