Obituary

Kenneth Albert Parsons, 94, of Eureka, passed away Wednesday morning, January 23, 2008, at Juliette Manor in Berlin where he resided for 12 days. Kenneth was born at home in Eureka on August 10, 1913, the son of Albert and Ethel (Tritt) Parsons. He attended Eureka Grade School and graduated from "dear old" Omro High School in 1932. He worked on farms in the Eureka area then hitchhiked to New York city to work. He returned home to work on the construction of the Eureka Bridge in 1939. From June of 1942 to February 1946, he proudly served in the U.S. Army 76th Infantry Division in the Ardennes, Rhineland, Central Europe and Battle of the Bulge. He met Alice King when he was home on leave and they married on August 31, 1946 in St. Anthony's Catholic Church near Cazenovia, WI. They resided together in their home in Eureka for 61 years and she preceded him in death 5 days before. He worked for the Winnebago County Highway Dept. and then Speed Queen in Ripon until he retired in 1979. Kenneth enjoyed his family, gardening and traveling to his Army reunions. He was a member of the Oshkosh VFW Post # 1908, the American Legion Post # 70, the Veterans of the Battle of the Bulge, and the Speed Queen Retirees Club.

He is survived by two sons, Charles (Karen) of Ripon and Gerald (Sharlene) of Berlin. Four grandchildren, Becki (Chris) Baird of Ripon, Nick Parsons (fiancée Kim Mechem) of Milwaukee, Jon (Brenda) Parsons of Wauwatosa and Katie Parsons (special friend Everett Reese, III) of Beloit; great-grandsons, Brendan and Dayton Baird of Ripon; one sister, Dorothy Harron of Oshkosh; two nephews, Richard (Millie) Harron of Oshkosh and James Harron of Omro; one niece, Janet (Charles) Aaronson of Oshkosh and many great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice; parents, Albert and Ethel (Tritt) Parsons; mother and father-in-law, Peter and Hilda (Salchenberger) King; brothers-in law, Clement Harron, Lawrence, Clarence, Jerome and Richard King; sisters-in-law, Elizabeth and Genevieve King; and his buddy, Harold "Buzz" Barnett.

Per Kenneth's wishes, there will be no visitation or service. Cremation has taken place. Private family burial will take place at a later date at Rushford Cemetery. A memorial is being established in his memory.
