Obituary

- Klella M. Garside, age 83, of Oshkosh, formerly of Platteville, died Wednesday, December 6, 2006, at Evergreen Retirement Community in Oshkosh. She was born on July 28, 1923, in Daisy, Oklahoma, the daughter of Ted and Josie (Rowland) Gabbart. She graduated from high school in Stringtown, Oklahoma, and was employed in Bakersfield, California, where she welded ships during World War II. On March 6, 1943, she married Leonard J. Garside in Blackstone, Virginia. After the war, they lived in Norman, Oklahoma, and moved to Platteville in 1950. Klella was a homemaker and raised three children. She went back to school at the University of Wisconsin Platteville, where she earned her BachelorÂ's degree in 1964. She later received her MasterÂ's degree in Elementary Education from UW-Platteville. Klella taught second grade for fifteen years at Westview Elementary in Platteville. After retirement, Klella and her husband spent part of the year in Oklahoma at their ranch. For the last six years, she has lived in Oshkosh.

Klella was a long time member of the United Methodist Church. She taught Sunday school and was a member of the church circle in Platteville for a number of years. She was also a member of the UW-Platteville WomenÂ's Group, Phi Delta Kappa and Kappa Delta Phi, the Hospital Auxiliary, and the Heritage Club.

Her life was her children and her grandchildren. Klella loved to travel and camp with her family.

Survivors include three children: Virginia K. "Ginni" (Chuck) Davis, Oshkosh; Leonard J. (Lynn) Garside, Jr., Gentry, AR; Robert Garside, Chicago, IL; seven grandchildren: Kristi (Doug) Baker, Madison; Kari (Adam) Meszaros, Oshkosh; Keali Winchell, Oshkosh; Lindsey (Tony) Amason, Tahlequah, OK; Lori Garside, Gentry, AR; Corey Garside, Fox Lake, WI; Rachel Garside, Platteville; nine great-grandchildren: Alex, Charlie, Reese, Max, Anthony, Andrew, Autumn, Avery, and Emma; two brothers and two sisters: Rowland (JoAnne) Gabbart, Daisy, OK; Dan (Pat) Gabbart, Atoka, OK; Shirley Choules and Kay Heard, both of Stringtown, OK; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Leonard on November 26, 1998, and three sisters: Betty, Ann, and Virginia.
A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 28, 2007 at the First United Methodist Church, 700 W. Linwood, in Oshkosh with Rev. Steven Kaehr officiating.
