LaVerne M. Schumacher, age 89, of Oshkosh, died Saturday morning, November 30, 2013, at Aurora Medical Center. Born on February 9, 1924, the daughter of Emil and Nette (Schroeder) Volkman, LaVerne married Herman Schumacher on August 9, 1942. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and Grace Circle. Sewing and cooking were favorite activities for LaVerne and she enjoyed volunteering at the Oshkosh Senior Citizen Center. She was employed by Montgomery Wards, National Foods and was a former salesclerk/manager at the Hallmark Card Store.
Left to mourn her passing is her husband of 71 years, Herman Schumacher, of Oshkosh; five sons, Gregory (Nancy) Schumacher of Elkins, West Virginia, Gary (Kerry) Schumacher of Fond du Lac, Rod (Debbie) Schumacher of Richmond, Minnesota, Randy (Kara) Schumacher of Denver, Colorado, Laird Schumacher of Oshkosh; two daughters, LaNette Weinkauf of Denver, Colorado, and Donna (Richard) Crawford of Racine, Wisconsin; 17 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren; five brothers-in-law/sisters-in-law. Preceding LaVerne in death are her parents, a sister, Shirley Buetow, a brother, Milt Volkman, and four sisters-in-law/brothers-in-law.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 7, 2013, at 2:30 p.m. in Grace Lutheran Church, 913 Nebraska Street, with Reverend Chadwick Graham officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Grace Lutheran Church in LaVerne's memory would be appreciated.
