Leslie A. Conger, age 89, of Oshkosh, died Saturday evening, January 24, 2009 at Northpoint Medical & Rehabilitation Center. He was born on May 22, 1919 in Oshkosh to Warren and Mary (Faust) Conger. On March 4, 1940 Les married Shirley Strey in Oshkosh and she preceded him in death on March 18, 1990.
A long-time employee of Universal Foundry, Les was a supervisor at the time of his retirement. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, former President of Universal Foundry Credit Union, and loved being out of doors, especially flower gardening and hunting.
Left to mourn his passing are five sons, David Conger of Oshkosh, William Conger of Dayton, Ohio, Daniel Conger of Oshkosh, Gary Conger of Appleton, and Michael Conger of Oshkosh; four daughters, Gloria Wesner of Oshkosh, Patricia Kasuboski of Omro, Carol Abraham of Oshkosh, and Gail Harrington of Waterford, Wisconsin; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Les is also survived by three brothers, Russell Conger of Oshkosh, Donald Conger of Winneconne, and Eugene Conger of Oshkosh; two sisters, Evelyn Barteltt of New London and Adeline Strasser of Oshkosh; and a close friend, Joan Conklin of Oshkosh. Preceding Les in death are his wife, parents, three brothers, Gerald Conger, Harvey Conger, and Edwin Conger; and a sister, Arlene Luce.
A time to honor Les' life will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 29, 2009 at Seefeld Family of Funeral Chapels, 1025 Oregon Street, with Reverend Thomas Willadsen officiating. Les will be laid to rest next to Shirley in Calvary Cemetery. A time of visitation and sharing of memories will be held on Thursday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral chapel.
