Lois Mae Miller, age 93, of Madison, passed away on Saturday, November 6, 2010, at HospiceCare in Madison. Lois was born on May 4, 1917, in the Town of Eldorado, the daughter of the late Leslie and Elizabeth Davies. She married Walter A. Miller on June 14, 1941, in the Town of Eldorado.
She was a member of the Peniel Presbyterian Church, Bethesda Presbyterian Church, Bethesda Church Women's Guild and the Druids. Lois was also a member and past president of the Ring Bells Homemakers Club and spent several years singing with the Sweet Adelines of Green Lake. She held a special place in her heart for the Bethesda Church.
She was a wonderful cook and a gracious hostess; entertaining for holidays and special occasions brought her great joy. As an EAA volunteer during its infancy, she entertained many EAA visitors in her home. Favorite activities included sewing, golfing, reading the daily paper, watching the Packers, traveling, and a life-long interest in all levels of politics. Lois was most happy sharing her life with others, especially her family.
A great source of pride was her Welsh heritage; she loved attending and singing at the Annual North American Festival of Wales and at the Annual Peniel Gymanfa Ganu in Pickett. She was a member of both organizations and a past president of the latter.
She is survived by her daughter, Joan Miller of Madison; son, James (Judy) Miller of Chilton; special son-like great nephew, Ronald (Patti) Kohnke of Madison; sister, Mary Kinyon of Rosendale; brother, Quentin Davies of Sun Prairie; granddaughter, Jacqueline (Joseph) Whowell of Chicago; grandson, Jeffrey of Neenah; one great-grandson; three great-granddaughters; one great-great-granddaughter; three nieces; four nephews; and numerous great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Walter; son, Douglas; seven sisters-in-law; three brothers-in-law; two nephews; and one niece.
A funeral service will be held for Lois at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, November 11, 2010 at Bethesda Presbyterian Church, in Ring. A time of visitation will be held Wednesday, November 10th, from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at Seefeld Family of Funeral Chapels, 1025 Oregon Street and again at the church on Thursday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the services. Interment will be in Zoar Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to Hospice Care Inc. of Madison or Bethesda Presbyterian Church.
Family members wish to thank all the nursing staff, physicians, and chaplains at St. Mary's Hospital and HospiceCare of Madison and her family physician of many years, Dr. Steven Hagen of Primary Care Associates Inc of Appleton for providing Lois with excellent and compassionate care.
