Lorna Anne Guetzkow, age 89 of Oshkosh, passed away peacefully with her family at her side at Park View Health Center on Saturday, April 4, 2009. She was born March 23, 1920 to John and Elizabeth (Lord) Schreiber. On March 8, 1946 she married Gordon Guetzkow in Iowa City, Iowa. They enjoyed 17 years together until his death on May 8, 1963.
The death of Gordon left Lorna to take care of their three young children and the family tavern, Gordy's Tap. She owned and operated Gordy's Tap until her retirement in 1973. Her children meant the world to her; she would always put them first. Her retirement allowed her the time to enjoy her grandchildren, work in the yard, and listen to the police scanner.
Surviving Lorna are her children: Lynn Nichols of Waupaca, Karen Ryf of Oshkosh, and Gordon Allen Guetzkow of Oshkosh; grandchildren: Gordon "Al" (special friend, Becky Lutz) Guetzkow Jr. of Oshkosh, Lisa VanCuyk of Kimberly, and Kara (Greg Smith) Ryf of Powell, Wyoming; great-grandchild, Jacob VanCuyk and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband Gordon, Lorna was preceded in death by her brother, John Haverty and sister, Katie Duffy.
A funeral service for Lorna will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday, April 8, 2009 at Seefeld Family of Funeral Chapels, 1025 Oregon Street. A time for visiting and sharing support will be held at the funeral chapel on Wednesday from 11:00 A.M. until the time of the service. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery. "Mom, we really miss you already, but we know that you are at peace now and finally out of pain. We will keep memories of you in our hearts and be comforted knowing that you are watching over us. We know that you waited a long time to be with dad and you are once again together."
