Lorraine E. Janiak, age 81, passed away Tuesday evening, January 17, 2017 at Copper Leaf Assisted Living in Ripon. She was born February 26, 1935, in New London, WI., the daughter of Edward and Marie (Krueger) Manske. Lorraine grew up, was educated in the New London School System, and was a graduate of New London High School. Following graduation from high school, she attended and received her teaching degree in education from the Wisconsin State University. Lorraine's teaching career included teaching assignments at various schools throughout Winnebago Co. As a teacher, she was involved in many school activities and coached volley ball in middle school. Lorraine was a very social and outgoing person who enjoyed dancing and Big Band music. She met her husband Daniel Janiak at a dance and they married April 7, 1956. This Catholic union was blessed with four children.Lorraine was an excellent baker and often told the story of participating in a State Fair competition with her signature cherry pie. Her family always looked forward to birthdays because Lorraine would bake an angel food cake in honor of their special day. In her younger years, Lorraine and Dan enjoyed water skiing on Lake Butte de Morts. She held a special place in her heart for family and always looked forward to spending time with them, especially during holidays like Christmas, Thanksgiving, and Easter. It was not uncommon for Lorraine to start her day by visiting and sharing a cup of coffee with her many friends.Lorraine is loved and will be missed by her children, Marie Rose (Pat) Paiz of Seguin, TX, Aileen (Gary) Ostermeier of Watertown, WI, Joseph (Carol) Janiak of Ripon, WI, and Julie Janiak of Janesville, WI; three grandchildren, one great grandchild, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Dan.Visitation will be held on Monday, January 23, 2017 at St. Mary Catholic Church, 730 Madison St., Omro from 11:30 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will follow at the church at 1:00 p.m. with Fr. Edward Looney and Sr. Pam Biehl officiating.
