Obituary

Louise Israel, 95, of Oshkosh, died at Creek View of Evergreen Retirement Center on Wednesday, April 13, 2005. She was born August 3, 1909 in Sumter, South Carolina, the daughter of Louise Gregorie and Robert Fletcher McLellan. She was graduated from Sumter High School in 1926. Attended Winthrop College (The South Carolina College for Women) and was graduated with honor in 1930 receiving a B.A. Degree. She taught the primary grades in Pinewood and Darlington, South Carolina. Graduate work in special education was done at Duke University. She was married July 22, 1942 to Alfred Heinz Israel, from Hanover, Germany and they lived in Darlington, South Carolina. They moved to Statesville, North Carolina in 1944 where son Julian was born. In 1949 the family moved to Oshkosh where son Herbert was born in 1951.
During the years Louise was a member and actively involved in many organizations, including: the Oshkosh League of Women Voters and the Oshkosh Woman's Club Cub Scouts Mothers, and P.T.A. She received a 20-year service pin from the Red Cross Blood Bank. She served as a volunteer worker with Retarded Children's School. Was a member of the Woman's Reading Club, serving as secretary and on various committees. Belonged to the Oshkosh Power Boat Club, the Oshkosh Country Club, The Sisterhood of Temple B'Hai Israel, and Trinity Episcopal Church.
Louise is survived by: her son, Julian (Marilyn) Israel of San Antonio, Texas; grandchildren: Jennifer, Patricia, Billy, and James; Daughter-in-Law, Kathleen Israel of Neenah; and Louise' sister, Matilda. Her husband, Alfred, and her son, Herbert, preceded her in death.
Funeral services for Louise will be held at 11:00 A.M., on Friday, April 15, 2005, at Seefeld Family of Funeral Chapels, 1025 Oregon Street, Father Steven Powers officiating. Burial will be at Lake View Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers the family wishes that memorials be made to the Christine Anne Center.
