Lyle S. Jackson, age 82, of Omro, died unexpectedly Thursday, February 9, 2006. He was born February 27, 1923 in Omro the son of Van and Ruth (Cameron) Jackson. Lyle had been a dairy farmer in the Omro area for a number of years. After farming he drove school bus for Garven's Bus Company and then worked and finally retiring as a custodian for the Omro School System.
Lyle loved nature and enjoyed spending time at his cabin. Over the years, he and other family members had planted more than 20,000 trees at his property. Lyle was an active loyal member of the First Presbyterian Church in Omro and Hope Presbyterian Church in White Lake, WI. He enjoyed reading to children and often would read to them at school, day care centers and libraries. He was a member of the Omro Area Historical Society and a member of the Sons of the Union Veterans of the Civil War Camp # 8. He served on the 6th Wisconsin Volunteer Artillery Re-enactment group and took part in firing the cannon for the Omro 4th of July Celebration. In keeping with his love of history, Lyle was a member of the Buckskinner's and often took part in their rendezvous throughout the state. In his spare time, he could often be found attending auctions with his daughter.
Lyle was loved and will be missed by his daughter, Ruth Jackson of Hartford, WI.; three grandchildren, Eric Ostertag of Philadelphia, Amy (Chris) Wadel of Slinger, WI. and James Ostertag of Hartford; one great granddaughter, Ava Wadel; one sister, Iva Mae Edminster of Milwaukee; sister in law, Betty Jackson of Omro; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Andrew Jackson; sister, Coralie Pelz and brother, Ray Jackson.
In respect to Lyle's memory, a Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday, February 15, 2006 at the First Presbyterian Church in Omro with Rev. Edward Slusser officiating. A time of fellowship will immediately follow the service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial in his name has been established. A Memorial Service will also be planned at his cabin in White Lake this summer.
