Obituary

Marcella "Mike" Mary Markofski Murah, age 99, of Berlin, died May 7, 2008 at Preston Place in Redgranite. The twelfth, born of eighteen, and last surviving child of Frank and Sophie Markofski was born January 10, 1909, on the "Johnson Farm", near Berlin. Marcella attended Berlin public schools and later transferred to St. Michael's Catholic School. She graduated from Berlin High School in 1927. After graduating from high school, she attended Oshkosh Business College. Following graduation from Business College, Marcella had worked at a men and women's clothing store in Oshkosh. Marcella married Edward Murah on July 21, 1931, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Berlin. Ed died tragically in an airplane crash on June 10, 1938, near Delavan, Illinois. Following Ed's death, Marcella was employed as an accountant and housing manager by the Champaign County, Illinois, Housing Authority. Following her retirement in 1976, she returned to Berlin. One of Marcella's greatest talents was creating Teddy Bears and other stuffed animals out of "fake fur." Marcella was an excellent seamstress making most of her clothes. She loved to play cards and Bingo, although she claimed never to be very lucky.

Marcella is survived by her son in law, Orbrey Owens; granddaughter, Marcella Osborn of Altus, OK, Laurie Davis of Lawton, OK; great grandchildren, Thacker, Heather and Mindy; great great grandchildren, Kassidy, Karissa, Kaleb; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ed; daughter, Jeannine Owens; her parents; her brothers and sisters, Lucy O'Kon, Agnes Moriearty, Anton Markofski, Steve Markofski, Victor Markofski, Casey Markofski, Nell Mirr, Andrew Markofski, Blaise Markofski, George Markofski, Helen Fuller, Sadie Bartol, Katherine Linnen, Regina Spangler, Sylvian Markofski, Eugene Markofski and Alexander Markofski.

Visitation will be held on Monday, May 12, 2008 at the Omro Funeral Home from 8:45 A.M. until 10:15 A.M. The Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Monday, May 12, 2008 at All Saints Catholic Church, N8566 State Road 49, Berlin at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Jerome J. Maksvytis and Rev. Richard Lesniak concelebrating . (Please meet at church.) Burial will follow in St. Stanislaus Cemetery. Memorials suggested to Berlin High School Alumni Association Scholarship fund. The family would like to thank Dr. Shattuck and the Staffs at Brown-Wilcox and Preston Place, for their kindness and care.
