Margaret Guiles, age 95, of Oshkosh, passed away Monday evening, November 22, 2004 at Mercy Medical Center. She was born on September 13, 1909 in Livingston, Wisconsin to Herbert and Lillian (Hill) Washburn. Margaret married Roger Guiles on June 12, 1934. Dr. Guiles was the Chancellor of UW-Oshkosh from 1959-74 and he preceded her in death on October 13, 1989.
After graduating from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville, Margaret taught school at Cazenovia, Wisconsin and Mineral Point, Wisconsin. She was a member of First Congregational Church in Oshkosh, P.E.O. Chapter CG, and was a member of UW-Oshkosh Faculty Dames.
Survivors include one daughter: Janet (John) Hubbell of Kewaskum; one son: Jon Guiles of Oshkosh; two grandsons: Stephen Hubbell and Craig (Audra) Hubbell; one sister-in-law: Marion (Max) Washburn of Montfort, Wisconsin; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, November 26, 2004 at Evergreen Retirement Community Chapel, 1130 North Westfield, Oshkosh, at 10:00 a.m. with Reverend Ralph DiBiasio-Snyder officiating. Interment will be on Saturday, November 27, 2004 at 11:30 a.m. in the Rock Church Cemetery at Livingston, Wisconsin. Memorials in Margaret's name are requested to UW-Oshkosh Foundation (Roger Guiles) or First Congregational Church in Oshkosh.
