Obituary

Marian Erickson, age 91, of Waukau, died Monday evening, September 24, 2012, at Mercy Medical Center surrounded by her family. She was born October 17, 1920, in Oshkosh, the daughter of Dell and Lillian (Kolb) Brayton. She married Louis E. Erickson in 1939 and he died in 1970. Marian was educated in the Oshkosh School System, graduated from U.W. Oshkosh and then earned her Master's in Education and Administration from U.W. Madison. She taught in the Omro School District for 38 years and retired in 1985 as principal of the Omro Middle School. Marian was a life member of the National Education Association, Wisconsin Retired Teachers Association, Past Worthy Matron of Palm Chapter, Order of Eastern Star, Past President of Omro VFW Auxiliary Post 8493, Winnebago County Educators Association, past member of American Association of University Women, and past member of the Omro Community Scholarship Board of Directors. She was a member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Ripon and also was a member of the Women of St. Peter's and Altar Guild.

Marian was dedicated to teaching her whole life. Her first classes were held at the Heffron School where she taught 1st grade through 8th grade all in one room. The bathroom was an outdoor outhouse. She later taught middle school English class where she made certain both of her grandchildren made their grades. After retirement, she stayed very active for many years, tutoring children who were struggling in school and volunteering for many organizations. She was a very strong and proud woman that rarely asked for help. Her family meant everything to her and she loved spending time with them.

Marian is loved and will be missed by her daughter, Sharon Haedt of Waukau, grandchildren, Edward (Jane) Haedt of Oshkosh, Terri Haedt of Oshkosh; great grandchildren, Kyle and Brittany Johnston, Kaylee (Clayton) LeRoy, Cassandra and Madeline Haedt; great great grandson, Elijah Johnston; brother, Richard (Betty) Brayton; ex grandson-in-law, Gary Johnston; three sisters in law, many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Louis E. Erickson; brothers, Russell, Theodore (Ted), Delbert (Del), and Willis Brayton and son in law, Edward Haedt.

Visitation begins at 3:30 p.m. followed by a memorial service at 4:00 p.m. Friday, September 28, 2012, at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, 217 Houston St., Ripon, with Fr. Tom McAlpine officiating. A private inurnment will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers a memorial is being established.
