Marian Polk Kilpatrick Watts
On November 28, 2009, Marian Polk Kilpatrick Watts peacefully passed on, in Delafield, Wisconsin. She was born on July 13, 1917, in Oshkosh, a daughter of the late Forrest R. and M. Ruth (Finley) Polk. A graduate of Oshkosh Normal School, Marian became an elementary teacher in Evanston, Illinois, and Neenah, Wisconsin. In 1941, Marian married Frank G. Kilpatrick, who was on active duty in the U.S. Army. After WWII ended, they moved to the West Coast, finally settling in San Jose, California. There Marian, while raising two children, earned a degree in Library Science from San Jose State University. She went on to work as a school librarian in Mountain View, California.
In 1966, Marian returned to Oshkosh, where her husband, Frank, passed away a few years later. She worked as an elementary media specialist in the Oshkosh Public Schools. In 1974, Marian married W. Kenneth Watts, who survives and will deeply miss her. After retirement, she volunteered at various organizations including the Grand Opera House, the Christian Science Reading Room, Oshkosh Convention & Visitors Association, and Meals on Wheels. Marian was a member of The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts, and also a member of First Church of Christ, Scientist, Oshkosh, where she was a former second reader.
Marian will be dearly missed by her children, Frank S. (Linda) Kilpatrick of Manhattan Beach, California, and Joan K. (Vincent) Bryant of Carmel, Indiana; three step-daughters, Pamela (James) Rheingans of Delafield, Wisconsin, Kathleen (James) Gunz of Neenah, Wisconsin, and Holly (Curtis) Hamblin of Dickson, Tennessee; two grandchildren, Christopher G.( Robin Ledford) Surguine of Chicago, Illinois, and Nicholas K. Surguine of Dallas, Texas; five step-grandchildren, Heather (Scott) Giese of Dickson, Tennessee, Hillary (Steve) Merry of Xenia, Ohio, Kelly (Edward Hardy) of Abington, Massachusetts, Sarah Binkelman of Roseville, Minnesota, and James Rheingans of Delafield, Wisconsin; a great-step-granddaughter, Brenna Giese; a sister, Vivian (William) Harnitz of Appleton, Wisconsin; and a brother, Robert R. (Mary Ann) Polk of Evans, Georgia. Preceding Marian in death are her parents and a sister, Frances Kester.
A Christian Science memorial service was held at First Church, Christ, Scientist in Hartland, Wisconsin on Tuesday, December 1, 2009. Inurnment will take place at Lake View Memorial Park in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. Please visit www.seefeldfuneral.com to send online condolences to the family.
