Obituary

Marvin James Knight, age 67, of Oshkosh, lost his courageous battle to Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis on Thursday morning, March 26, 2009, at his home, with his family by his side. He was born on October 11, 1941 at home in Illinois, the son of James and Mildred (Rittmeyer) Knight. He grew up on the family farm in rural Berlin, Wisconsin, and was a graduate of Berlin High School. Marv married Carol Ann Spanbauer on October 1, 1966, at St. Vincent Catholic Church in Oshkosh.

Marv has touched every person in his path with a special smile, caring heart and warm embrace. His passions were working, farming, and helping others. He proudly served in the US Navy. Marv was an active member of Bay Lakes Council BSA. He was a Scoutmaster at St. Vincent's Troop 618 and served on various committees. One committee which was near and dear to Marv was the properties committee. He attended the National Scout Jamboree three times as part of the maintenance subcamp. He received vigil honor in the Order of the Arrow and was a six time Wood Badge participant in scout leadership training. He was a recipient of the Silver Beaver award. Marv was extremely proud of his three sons achieving the rank of Eagle Scout and vigil honor in the Order of the Arrow.

Marv was an avid sportsman, a lifetime member of the American Legion Cook-Fuller Post # 70 of Oshkosh, past President of the Oshkosh Mid Morning Kiwanis Club, a member of the Winnebago County Fair Board, was a 17 Gallon Blood Donor. He retired from Rockwell International after 37 years of service as a maintenance supervisor and received an award for all his work with the youth. After retiring he worked part time for Kingsbury Inc. in Oshkosh.

Marv is survived by his wife, Carol Knight; sons, Kevin (Kelly) Knight of Bullhead City, AZ, Keith (Lisa) Knight of Shellsburg, IA and Kirk (Jeanne) Knight of Oshkosh; sisters, Ruth (Don) O'Brien of Green Valley, AZ and Verna (Karl) Weber of Channing, MI. He is further survived by 8 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many near and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Mildred Knight.

In respect to Marv's memory, the family will greet relatives and friends at St. Raphael Catholic Church, 830 S. Westhaven Dr., Oshkosh, on Monday, March 30, 2009, from 2:00 P.M. until 5:45 P.M. We will celebrate his life with a Mass of Christian Burial at 6:00 P.M. at the Church with Rev. Doug LeCaptain officiating. Cremation will follow after services.

The family would like to thank Ken and Roberta from Aurora Hospice and all the supportive friends and family for the care given to Marv and the rest of his family
