Marvin R. Potratz died peacefully in his sleep, at Sterling House, on Sunday, January 18, 2009 at the age of 97. He was born in Oshkosh on July 10, 1911, the son of Emil C. and Clara E. (Berndt) Potratz. He graduated from Oshkosh High School in 1929 and was employed at the Deltox Rug Company until his retirement.
For many years he was a member of the Musicians Union and had enjoyed playing the accordion. He was an avid golfer, playing many times at the Far Vu golf course until the age of 90 when, due to health problems, he was unable to continue. During WWII Marvin served in the U.S. Army from August 1942 until February 1946.
Surviving Marvin is: his nephew, Jack E. (Joan) Radtke; great-nephews, Robert (Michelle) Radtke and Michael (Amy) Radtke; and Robert's and Michael's children. Marvin was preceded in death by his parents; sisters: Hazel Gibson, Harriet "Cal" Radtke, and Ruth Potratz who died in infancy; and brothers-in-law: Earl A Gibson and Edwin "Hon" Radtke.
A funeral service will be held for Marvin at 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday, January 20, 2009 at Seefeld Family of Funeral Chapels, 1025 Oregon Street. Friends and family are invited to gather at the funeral chapel on Tuesday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service. Interment will be in Lake View Memorial Park.
