Obituary

Mary Janice Mertz, age 73 of Oshkosh, died at Mercy Medical Center on Wednesday, July 20, 2011. She was born in Green Bay on February 17, 1938, and loved by her parents, Anthony P. and Eleanor Marie (Miller) Serwas. On April 27, 1957 she married Richard Mertz. He preceded her in death September 4, 1994.
A dispatcher for Winnebago County for nearly 30 years, Mary was known as "Mother Mary." She retired in August of 2004. Mary loved classical music and held season tickets to the Oshkosh Symphony for many years. She loved sports, especially the Bucks, Packers, and Brewers. Few people could fill out their NCAA brackets as well as Mary. She was an excellent cook and served as a cooking merit badge counselor for the Boy Scouts. She also enjoyed camping at Point Beach, just going for a drive, and playing cards especially Texas Hold'um. Her green thumb caused her to provide many delicious fruits and vegetables.
