Obituary

Merlin Ernst "Mert" Merten, age 88, of Oshkosh, passed away at Theda Clark on Tuesday, June 17, 2014. He was born in the Town of Nekimi on December 8, 1925. He proudly served in the United States Navy during WWII. He was married to Dorothy Privoznik on October 21, 1950. She preceded him in death in 2011. They made their home in Oshkosh. Merlin was employed at the Universal Foundry as a Time Study Analyst for over 30 years and later at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh in the maintenance department. He enjoyed golfing, woodworking, spending time at their cottage on Moon Lake, and spending time together with family and friends.
He is survived by his children: Greg (Shirley) Merten, Diane (Steve) Gibson and Cathy (Jeff) Boettcher; grandchildren: Matt (Lindsay) Gibson, Sarah (Damon) Mogensen, Jessica (Pat) Judkins, Kyla Boettcher, Michelle Hart and Rob (Rachel) Hart; five great-grandchildren, and many niece and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy; brother, Lester Merten; and stillborn infant daughter, Ann Marie.
Visitation will begin at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, June 20, 2014 at the Seefeld Funeral Home. A memorial service will follow at 5:00 p.m. with Fr. William Van De Kreeke officiating. Burial will be in Lakeview Memorial Park, Oshkosh.
