Morley "Mort" Spears, age 76, of Oshkosh, passed away surrounded by his family on Thursday, August 18, 2011, at his home. Born October 21, 1934, the son of Reuben and Arry (Fritsch) Spears, he married Bertha "Bert" Calkins-Reinke on July 15, 1995.
For over 36 years Mort was a proud member of Alcoholics Anonymous and touched the lives of so many people through that organization. He celebrated 36 years of sobriety on July 25 of this year. Mort retired from Hoffmaster in 1998 and he and Bert helped run Enchanted Forest Campground for eight years. Listening to polka music was one of his favorite things to do. He loved his family and his cat, Simon.
Those left to forever remember and love Mort include his wife, Bert of Oshkosh; children, Debe (Ron) Pyszora of Neenah, Jim (Ann) Spears of Kaukauna, Todd Spears of Red Granite, Connie (Joe) Seekins of Neenah, Jessica (Jim) Austin of Menasha; step-children, Pat (John Moore) Henke of Neshkoro, Sue Reinke of Oshkosh, Peggy (Christine Gremminger) Reinke of Campbellsport; 16 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; 5 step-grandchildren; and 3 step-great-grandchildren. Mort was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Bernard Spears; step-daughter, Sandy Miller; and granddaughter Tanya Spears.
Memorial service for Mort will take place on Tuesday, August 23, 2011, at 5:00 p.m. in Seefeld Family of Funeral Chapels, 1025 Oregon Street, with Rick Engen officiating. A time of visiting and sharing of memories will take place at the funeral chapel on Tuesday from 2:00 p.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers a memorial is being established.
