Nile D. Akin, age 66, of Eureka, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Thursday, March 24, 2005 at Aurora Medical Center in Oshkosh. Nile was born on February 24, 1939 in Newhaven Township, Michigan to Warren and Katie Derrick Akin. He married Sarah Mohler on November 16, 1962. He worked for Stelzners Manufacturing for 15 years. Nile was a gentle, compassionate person who set an example as a husband and father. These attributes proved beneficial as he was involved in Adult Foster Care for 14 years. Family and friends will fondly remember Nile as a dreamer and planner, who took pleasure in playing games with his grandchildren; and always enjoyed the Holidays and excelled at making his secret recipe, baked beans. His skill of woodworking and furniture making; gardening and his growing of vegetables were a few of his many joys in life.
Nile is survived and will be missed by his wife Sarah, of Eureka; his sons, David (Sarah) of Oshkosh, Donald (Tina) of Oshkosh; his daughters, Cathy (Karl) Oldefendt of Oshkosh, Cheryl Akin Petroski of Ripon, and Sharon (John) Schiltz of Oshkosh, grandchildren, Jessica, Josh, Karla, Nile, Michael, Katie, Jeremy, Ben, Beth, Cody, Katelynn, Jake, Karl, Hayli & Jessica; his brother, Rev. Wayne (Esther) Akin of Brooks, Canada, sister, Wilma York of Lansing, Michigan, other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Leslie Akin and sister Darlene Bade.
Visitation will be at the Omro Funeral Home on Tuesday, March 29, 2005 from 11 A.M. until the time of the funeral Service at 1:00 P.M. with Rev. Randy Prahl officiating. Burial will follow in Eureka Cemetery. Family and friends may gather at the Akin home after the burial.
