"Her ways are ways of Pleasantness and all her paths are peace" Proverbs 3:17
Norma M. (nee Prell) DeBoer joined her beloved husband, Stanley; daughter, Christine; and their Lord when she passed from this life on Sunday, August 22, 2010. Born in Oakdale, Wisconsin to George and Mae (Brookman) Prell, she was a graduate of Tomah High School.
While employed by the Resettlement Administration in Black River Falls, she married Stanley DeBoer, an ebullient blond naturalist just arrived from Boston. They shared a remarkably happy marriage for over 60 years, filled with travel, camping, dancing and wonderful friends in Black River Falls, Oregon, Omro and Oshkosh.
Norma had been employed by Jackson County Bank and Rural Electrification in Black River Falls, the Wisconsin School for Girls in Oregon, Wisconsin and the University of Wisconsin - Oshkosh. While she enjoyed her bookkeeping career, Norma had always wanted to write or be an English teacher, choices not possible during the Great Depression. She realized some of this dream in later life by writing a family history and having many articles published in newspapers and anthologies. Norma was active in the Calvary Lutheran Church, Oshkosh Senior Center creative writing class, Timber Toppers Square and Valley Carousel Round dance groups and Learning in Retirement.
Norma is survived, remembered, and loved by her children: Barry (Barbara) of Ulster, Pennslyvania and Carla (Neal) Butenhoff of Elm Grove; her grandchildren, Bekah (Jack Chang) Weitz of Osseo and Glynis Weitz of Eau Claire; her great-grandson Killian Chang; brothers Vere (Jan) Prell of Tomah and Floyd (Betty) Prell of Wilton and many loving and attentive nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Stanley, her daughter Christine and son-in-law David Weitz as well as her brothers Lawrence and Wilbert Prell.
Please join us in celebrating Norma's everlasting life during memorial services at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 27, 2010 at Calvary Lutheran Church, 2580 West 9th Street. The family will greet friends at the church on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service. Please visit www.seefeldfuneral.com to send online condolences to the family.
