Odessa Belle Harrmann died on October 12, 2005 in her room at Evergreen Manor after suffering with her illness for two years. She was born on December 29, 1919 in East St. Louis, Illinois, the first daughter of Harry Clarence Dollins and Minnie Gertrude (Hook) Dollins. Odessa married Carl Stille Harrmann, Sr. on August 26, 1944 in Atlanta, Georgia. She had met her future husband at a USO party for soldiers who were stationed near her home in Mt. Vernon, Illinois during WWII.
Odessa was active in the Oshkosh community. She was a Past President of the Oshkosh Museum Auxiliary and a member of the Twentieth Century Club. She was also a member of the American Study Group, where she presented many papers about American History, and a member of the Eastern Star. Odessa attended the Oshkosh Symphony regularly, where she was a gold patron. Being Episcopalian by faith, she attended services at Trinity Episcopal Church in Oshkosh until her illness prevented her from doing so. Members of the Episcopal congregation, the deacons, and Father Steven Powers lovingly supported her throughout her illness.
A family and friends who loved her survive Odessa. She is sorely missed by a son: Carl Stille Harrmann, Jr. of Oshkosh; two granddaughters: Kjirsti Erika Harrmann of Brooklyn, New York; Libby Sarah Kanyuh of Franklin, Wisconsin; one grandson: Carl Walter Harrmann of Maplewood, Minnesota; two great-granddaughters: Cassandra Rose and Charlotte Rain Kanyuh; and one sister: Oatie Ruth Fleckenstein of Dahlgren, Illinois. Preceding Odessa in death were her husband, parents, one brother: Jerome Douglas Dollins, and one brother-in-law: Raymond Fleckenstein.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 15, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. in Trinity Episcopal Church, 311 Division Street, with Reverend Steven Powers officiating. Odessa's family will greet friends after the service. Interment will take place on Monday at the IOOF Cemetery in Dahlgren, Illinois. A memorial will be established to the American Cancer Society.
