Orville C. Baier, age 86, of Oshkosh, died Monday evening, March 12, 2007 at Northpoint Medical & Rehabilitation Center. He was born on November 1, 1920 in Oshkosh to Charles and Edna (Luebke) Baier. Orville married Alice Felker on November 15, 1941 in Oshkosh.


Orville was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church where he served as Treasurer, Sunday School Superintendent, Board of Elders President, a 50 year member of Immanuel Lutheran Church Choir, as well as various other church committees. He was a major factor in Christian Education for children. Orville was a 32 year employee for Guernsey Dairy Company and later for Morning Glory until his retirement in 1984. He enjoyed baseball, as a player in his younger years, fishing, hunting, and was well-known as a kind, loving, generous man. Orville served in the U.S. Army in the South Pacific Theatre during WWII as a staff sergeant.


Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Alice Baier of Oshkosh; three daughters, Kathryn Baier of Omro, Elizabeth Sue (Douglas) Mahy of Dallas, Texas, and Margaret Kay (Frank) Wilderspin of St. Louis, Missouri; four grandchildren, Shannon (David) Wiggins, Erin Mahy, Frank Wilderspin III, and Mara Tavo Diaz-Granados; one sister, Eleanor Mae (Willert) Kester of Omro; a brother-in-law, Lorny (Jay) Felker of Oshkosh; and a sister-in-law, Gloria (Ken) Moore of Oshkosh. Preceding Orville in death are his parents and one sister, Audrey Zarling.


Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 16, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. in Immanuel Lutheran Church, 338 North Eagle Street, with Reverend David Pagel officiating. Interment will be in Lake View Memorial Park. A time of visitation and support will be held on Friday from 11:00 to 1:00 p.m. at the church.
