Paul Frederick Hrubecky, age 61 of Omro, passed away on July 4, 2022 while doing chores at the lakefront property he owned in Omro with his wife, Kim Prusha.
Paul was born at Theda Clark Hospital in Neenah to Fred and Madeline Hrubecky. He attended St. Margaret Mary Elementary School, Lakeview School, Horace Mann Jr. High School, Shattuck Middle School, and Armstrong High School, graduating in 1980. Paul played trumpet in a variety of school musical groups, and also played varsity tennis. He excelled at racquetball and swim team. He attended University of Wisconsin - Madison and graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh with degrees in Economics and International Relations.
Growing up in Neenah, Paul went with his family on vacations to California, eastern and midwestern states visiting family and friends, and a Vermont bike tour. He enjoyed having many extended family members in, and near Neenah.
Paul was a Boy Scout in Neenah's Troop 45, with his dad as his Scoutmaster and brother as a fellow scout. As a scout he earned his Eagle Scout badge. He was a camp counselor at Gardner Dam Boy Scout Camp, and later a Cubmaster for Cub Scout Pack 3623 in Omro.
Prior to working for UPS Paul worked at the Neenah-Menasha YMCA, and sold home electronics for The Exclusive Company in Appleton and Oshkosh.
Paul delivered packages for UPS for over 30 years and loved meeting all of the people on his many routes. To his last day he had interesting stories about his time as a driver. During his time as a driver he also pursued his love of investing as he managed and grew their retirement portfolio before and after hours. He continued full-time investing after retiring from UPS. He often commented to family and friends that he was not really "retired" after retiring from UPS.
Paul was married to the love of his life, Kim Prusha "Charmin" for 34 years, and had two sons, Sam and Pedro. Paul and Kim enjoyed watching their sons in their various sports through their high school years. Paul always took great pride in their sons, and the fine young men they have grown into.
Paul had so many interests in life, including vegan cooking, canning, self-reliance, gardening, camping, biking, weightlifting, windsurfing, traveling in their Roadtrek, investing, knowing what was going on in the world, remodeling and repairing, woodworking, movies, reading, music (playing and listening), hanging out at the land, learning in general, landscaping, language (German, Spanish, Mandrin) and falling asleep while playing cards and dominos. Paul always looked forward to the annual Hrubecky reunion in Indiana. He also loved the annual Door County outings with his parents, brother's family, and their children. The Prusha's turned him into a Pepper player and he enjoyed their regular get togethers, teaming up with the other "out-laws", and playing with the many great nieces and nephews.
Paul is survived by his wife, Kim Prusha; his two sons, Sam and Pedro; his parents, Fred and Madeline Hrubecky of Neenah, WI; a brother, Steve (Kathy); his mother-in-law, Betty Prusha; brothers and sisters-in-law: Mark Prusha (Donna), Todd Prusha (Jo), Lisa Coyle (Jim); many nieces and nephews: and great nieces and nephews.
Paul was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Dick Prusha; and sister-in-law, Kay Prusha.
Paul loved debate and was a great listener. He was one of the most tender and kind-hearted people you could find. His ability to walk into any room and make a friend, and his always cheerful optimistic outlook will be greatly missed.
A visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. until the time of memorial service at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 9, 2022 at Kwiatkowski Funeral Home.
