Peter J. "Pete" Chapman, age 65, of Oshkosh, died unexpectedly on Saturday, June 6, 2009. Born on August 11, 1943 in Milwaukee to James J. and Fern L. (Salter) Chapman, he was a well know person in the Oshkosh community, serving as a director at EAA. The community was in the forefront of Pete's life, from serving on the Wisconsin Board of Tourism Council, Executive Director of the Green Bay Train Museum, Director of Fundraising for the Oshkosh Veterans Museum, to his active participation at Community Church with the ushers. Cars, rebuilding or restoring them, was an interest that kept him busy. Being a "people person", Pete was able to make others feel special. Pete served his country by enlisting with the U.S. Air Force.
Family members that will carry on without Pete's guidance are a sister, Penny Chapman of Milwaukee; a brother, Mark Chapman of Milwaukee; a niece, Amanda (Jason) Bohacek of Brown Deer; a great-niece, Kayla Bohacek; and two cousins, Jackie Chapman of Grafton, and Greg Chapman of Bayside, Wisconsin.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 12, 2009, at 6:30 p.m. in Community Church, 2351 Ryf Road, with Reverend Alan Cleveland officiating. A time of visitation and sharing of memories will be held on Friday from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. at the church. Military Honors will be given by the United Veterans Honor Guard with interment in Lake View Memorial Park. Expressions of sympathy may be given to the Oshkosh Veterans Museum in Pete's memory.
