Raymond "Ray" W. Biernat, age 86, of Oshkosh, died Thursday afternoon, July 28, 2011, at Mercy Medical Center. Born on April 1, 1925, in Milwaukee to Walter and Mary (Slominski) Biernat, Ray married Agnes A. Gordee on June 20, 1953, in Milwaukee. Agnes preceded Ray in death on October 29, 1998.
Employed by Square D Company in Milwaukee, Ray then moved his family to North Carolina before returning to Milwaukee where he was employed by Harley-Davidson. The family moved to Oshkosh in 1976, where Ray owned and operated Ray's Restaurant on North Main Street until 1992. He was a long time member of St. Vincent Catholic Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Annette "Annie" (Todd Lowery) Pressley of Appleton and Anita (Eric) McDonald of Oshkosh; five grandchildren, Crystal (Jeremy Hinz), Tanya (Chris Schmidt), Stella, Andrew, and Ryan; a step-granddaughter, Janelle; five great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Alexander, Daniel, Emilee, and Carter; cousins, Bobby Elhert and Rosalie (Jerry) Zaborske; and nieces and nephews. Ray also had a large extended "family", the Preferred Home Health Care nurses and staff, who took such good care of him the past few years. Preceding Ray in death is his wife, parents, siblings, Jack Biernat and Dorothy Olsen, and a son-in-law, Del Pressley.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, August 3, 2011, at 1:00 p.m. at St. Jude the Apostle Parish, St. Vincent Catholic Church, 1225 Oregon Street, with Father William Van De Kreeke officiating, assisted by Deacon Raymond Brandenstein. Interment will follow the Mass at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery. A time of visiting and sharing of memories will be held on Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. until Mass time at 1:00 p.m. at the church.
