Obituary
Raymond "Butch" Gorschels Jr. age 75, passed away on January 9, 2025 with his loving wife by his side in Oshkosh, WI. He was born on November 20, 1949 to parents Raymond and Lorraine (Gauger) Gorschels Sr. in Oshkosh, WI.
He graduated in 1968 from Oshkosh High School. Butch served his country in the United States Army, during the Vietnam War, from 1968 to 1972.
He drove semi, and sometimes his cat Panther would go along. He also worked at 7-Up Bottling Company and Fleet Farm in Appleton, as a forklift driver until retirement.
In his youth, Butch enjoyed hunting and watching baseball, football and racing on TV. On May 2, 2003, he married the love of his life, Shirlee Buskirk in Omro, WI. Shirlee and Butch became inseparable. They enjoyed watching old westerns together and also spent a lot of time outdoors doing gardening and yard work. Their favorite getaway place was Door County. Butch loved woodworking, he built swing sets, sandboxes, birdhouses and even built a treehouse for his grandson, Brett Engel.
He was always willing to help others and had a good sense of humor.
He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Shirlee Gorschels; stepchildren Fred Abler Jr. and Missy (Justin) Ditter; grandson Brett Engel. He is further survived by his sisters Betty Luther, Barbara Weidemann and Beverly (Tom) Paulsen; brother Robert "Bob" Gorschels and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Preceding him in death were his parents Raymond and Lorraine (Gauger) Gorschels Sr.; parents-in-law Gaylord and Fern Buskirk; brother-in-law Tom Luther and nephew Gordy Luther.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at Kwiatkowski Funeral Home, 425 Jefferson Ave., Omro, WI, from 10:00am to 12:00pm with service at 12:00pm. Military Honors will be present immediately following the service in front of the funeral home.
The family would like to thank all of the staff at Mercy Medical Center (including nurses, doctors, the Chaplin and environmental services) as well as the team at Compassus Hospice- especially Nicole, for treating them like family and their great care given to Butch. A very sincere thank you to friends, neighbors and extended family that came to visit Butch while he was in the hospital and lending their support during this difficult time. Your kindness will not be forgotten.
