Raymond A. Janiak, age 87, of Omro, passed away peacefully Friday morning, May 14, 2010, at the Omro Care Center. Ray was born on August 31, 1922, the son of Albin and Florence (Lemieux) Janiak. He was a graduate of Omro High School and later attended college at St. Mary's in Winona, MN. He received his Master's Degree from University of Portland, Oregon and then received his Ph D equivalency from Seton Hall in South Orange, New Jersey. Ray proudly served his country in the US Navy from 1942 to 1946. He married Audrey Philipp on November 10, 1945, at St. John's Catholic Church in Oshkosh. Ray had worked as a research chemist for most of his career. He worked for Armour Pharmaceutical, Celenase, Sherwin Williams and retired from United Technologies in 1987. Ray was a faithful and active member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Omro Kiwanis, Life member of American Legion Post # 234, Omro Area Community Center, Omro School Board and served on several other city committees. He was a past president of American Chemical Society Eastern Division.
He is survived by his wife, Audrey; his daughters, Kristine Philipp of Louisville, Kentucky, Teresa Irvin of Divide, Montana, Jacqueline (Steve) Wyandt of Arenzville, Illinois; daughter in law, Doris Janiak of Alexandria, Virginia; 8 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; brothers, Richard (Shirley) Janiak, Daniel (Lorraine) Janiak; sister, Angela Shew; other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; sons, Andrew and Kenneth; sisters, Marjorie Simmet and Petronella Schilcher.
In respect to Ray's memory, family and friends will gather at St. Mary Catholic Church, 730 Madison St., Omro, on Tuesday, May 18, 2010, from 4:00 P.M. until the time of the Mass of Christian Burial at 7:00 P.M, with Fr. Doug LeCaptain and Sr. Pam Biehl officiating. Ray will be laid to rest at Lake View Memorial Park in Oshkosh.
