Raymond J. Sierzega, made his final cast here on earth Saturday, March 21, 2015, passing away peacefully at home to cast in the waters of Heaven. Born August 5, 1932, in Chicago, IL to the late Valentine and Julia (Drewniak) Sierzega, Ray graduated from Chicago Vocational High School, served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, and went on to marry Mary J. Gawel on November 9, 1957. He worked at Verson Allsteel Press in Chicago before moving with his family to Wisconsin in 1976, where he was employed by and retired from Mercury Marine in Fond du Lac. Ray loved the outdoors, especially fishing and hunting, as well as a good laugh and sharing a good story.
Ray is survived by his wife, Mary, Oshkosh, WI; two daughters, Debra (Darrel) Luebke, Green Bay, WI and Diane Sierzega, Roswell, GA; four grandchildren, Allison Luebke, Seattle, WA, and Tim, Emily, and Matthew Luebke, all of Green Bay, WI; sisters-in-law, Rosemary Kus and Virginia Gawel, both of Chicago, IL, and Jeanette Blessing of Dearborn Heights, MI; a brother-in-law, Edward Gawel of Chicago, IL; many nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Edward Sierzega, and three sisters, Adele (Harry) Ulaszek, Estelle (Bernie) Felice, and Alfreda (Henry) Kania.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 28, 2015, at 1:00 p.m. at Seefeld Funeral Home, 1025 Oregon Street, Oshkosh, WI, preceded by visitation for family and friends from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
The family wishes to express heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Michael Duffy and the entire staff at Aurora VNA Hospice for their compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer's Association or Aurora VNA of Oshkosh.
