Obituary

Raymond H. Smith, age 93, died at home on Sunday, March 2, 2008. He was born November 4, 1914, in rural Poy Sippi, Wisconsin. He was reared there on the Fountain Valley Nursery by his parents, James Howard and

Minnie (Austin) Smith. He worked on the nursery and did landscaping. Raymond served in the Merchant Marines from the spring of 1944 to the summer of 1945 during World War II. He resided for some time in Auroraville, Wisconsin. He raised honey bees, sold honey, and did high tree pruning. He later moved to Winnebago. By faith he was a Seventh Day Adventist.

Raymond's first marriage was to Lylith Mary Dodge on May 3, 1939. They had three children; Laura, Jack and Earl. His second marriage was to Patricia Gorst on April 30, 1959. They had three children; Raymond, Minimay, and Howard. He worked at the state hospital in Winnebago and retired on April 8, 1977.

He is survived by his children, Laura Waddle, Raymond (Sue), Minimay Tuchscherer (David) Howard, foster son, Mark Lee, as well as his step-daughter Jeannie (Kerry) Lindberg and by one sister, Beth (Norman) Hanke. He was also survived by 11 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his first wife Lylith, sons Jack and Earl, his grandchildren, Sara and Jacob, his sister Lucille (Arling) Erickson and parents.

The family wishes to express a special thank you to Hospice (Connie, Johanna, Sandy, Marcia), also, to the Seventh Day Adventist Prayer Chain and Pastor Samuel Garbi, special friends; Patsy Malone, Wendy Cape, and Gail Kennedy. Raymond loved the Lord and will be sorely missed by his family.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
