Obituary

Raymond J. Zelhofer, age 91, passed away at Evergreen on Monday, March 4, 2013. Ray was born in Jacksonport, Wisconsin, on January 4, 1922, the son of the late Frank and Vlasta (Appel) Zelhofer. On August 13, 1947 he married Marguerite Johnson, his wife of 65 years, in Essexville, Michigan. Ray served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and enjoyed his many Annual Naval Reunions. He worked as a parts assembler for Rockwell International for 45 years. Ray was a Past Town Chairman for the Township of Algoma. His memberships included the American Legion, Otter Street Fishing Club, The Last Man's Club, and most importantly being a faithful member of St. Raphael the Archangel Catholic Church. Ray will be remembered for his love of fishing, hunting, gardening, watching the Packers, and woodworking which include his beautiful birdhouses.
Ray is survived by his wife, Marguerite; daughters: Sharon (Charles) Carlson of Oshkosh, Susan (Glenn) Mentink of Neshkoro, Catherine (Thomas) O'Connell of Oshkosh, Jane (Michael) Nygaard of Oshkosh, Frances Haese of Oshkosh and Louise (Paul) Schoenike of Omro; grandchildren: Heather, Amber, Shannon, Michael, Christina, Aaron, Carrie, Melissa, Jeremy, Coltan and Kaitlin, six great-grandchildren; and brother: Roman Zelhofer of Oshkosh; and sisters-in-law: Betty, Nancy and Sally Zelhofer; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Robert, Harold and Frank Zelhofer; and sister-in-law, Lorraine Zelhofer.
The funeral liturgy will be at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 7, 2013, at ST. RAPHAEL THE ARCHANGEL CATHOLIC CHURCH, 830 S. Westhaven Dr., Oshkosh, with Father Luke Ferris officiating. Friends will be received at the church on Thursday from 3:30 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. Burial will be in Lakeview Memorial Park.
The family extends a special thank you to the staff at Evergreen for the care given to Ray over the last few months.
