Rhinold C. Gustavus, age 95, of Oshkosh, died Thursday evening, January 24, 2008 at his son's home in Fond du Lac. He was born on September 4, 1912 in Oshkosh to Joseph and Ada (Crittenden) Gustavus. Rhinold married Helen Heisler on January 7, 1939 in Oshkosh and she preceded him in death on August 10, 1998.


Rhinold was employed by the City of Oshkosh for 28 years in the street department, the sanitation department, and was a bridge tender at Oshkosh Avenue, before retiring in 1975. He liked to be out of doors, spending time in the garden.


Survivors include a son, David (Ethel) Gustavus of Fond du Lac; three grandchildren, Steven Gustavus of Navarino, Jeffrey Gustavus of Fond du Lac, and Darcia (Kevin) Moore of Fond du Lac; four great-grandchildren, Christopher and Eric Gustavus, Robert and Brianna Moore; one great-step-granddaughter, Jennifer (Dave) Davies; one great-great-step-granddaughter, Isabelle Davies; and three sisters, Ada Smet, Ruth Luther, and Barbara (Richard) Spanbauer. Preceding Rhinold in death are his wife, parents, two sisters, Lilly Knecht and June Reany, and two brothers, Joseph and Robert Gustavus.


Funeral services will be held on Saturday (TODAY), January 26, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. in Seefeld Family of Funeral Chapels, 300 North Eagle Street. A time of visitation and support will be held on Saturday from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. in the funeral chapel. Interment will be in Lake View Memorial Park.
