Richard H. Jansen, age 84, of Oshkosh, died peacefully on Thursday, November 18, 2004 at his home. He was born September 11, 1920 in the city of West DePere, the son of Frank and Ann Jansen. He married Catherine "Molly" Hengartner on July 20, 1944. Together they had six children: four boys and two girls. They also have a nephew, Thor, who has been a part of the family since his twelfth birthday.
Richard proudly served his country for five years in the United States Army and was inducted into the National Guard, 121st Field Artillery. He joined the Army Ground Force Band and Dance Orchestra for three and a half years. After his discharge, he was appointed Deputy County Treasurer of Brown County, Deputy City controller for one year, and later appointed Finance Director for the City of Green Bay. In 1965 he was appointed Director of Administration Finance Director for the City of Oshkosh, a position he held until his retirement in 1983.
He was active in the YMCA in Green Bay and Oshkosh, serving ten years on the Oshkosh board and two years as president of the board. He also spent many years in ARC and was president of the organization. Richard also served as treasurer of Chamco, and served on the Oshkosh Industrial Development Committee. Richard was a proud and active member of the Republican Party and served on Richard Nixon's campaign committee.
Richard is survived by his wife, Catherine, and their sons: Jeff (Mary), Frank (Diana), Bob (Mary) and David; two daughters, Judith (Jim) Fisher and Lynn Barthels; his special nephew, Thor Laguna, and his sister, Jean Ann (Earl) Aerts. He is also survived by nineteen grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, November 22, 2004, at 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 1025 W. 5th Avenue, with Reverend Thomas Reynebeau officiating. Visitation will be held on Sunday at the Seefeld Family of Funeral Chapels, 1025 Oregon Street, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., at which time there will be a prayer service. Visitation will continue Monday at church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the Mass. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery.
Richard will be dearly missed by his beloved family.
