Richard J. Keyes, age 86, of Oshkosh, died peacefully at Evergreen Retirement Community on Wednesday, November 22, 2006. He was born to Jay and Ella (Behling) Keyes on June 29, 1920 in Oshkosh. Richard served his country in the army from 1942-1946, during World War II in the European Theatre. He met Florence Matulle and they were married on October 2, 1942 in Ft. Worth, Texas.
Richard worked as a police officer for the City of Oshkosh for 28 years. After retiring from the force in 1975, he began working at Firstar Bank, now US Bank for 15 years. Richard retired in 1990. He was a member of Plymouth Congregational Church. Richard enjoyed fishing, bowling, and the outdoors. He was also a member of the American Legion.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Florence, his daughter Diane (Charles) Muggenthaler of Appleton, and his granddaughter Shauna Lautenschlager of Menasha. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial service for Richard will be on Tuesday, November 28, 2006 at 12:00 P.M., at Seefeld Funeral Chapels - 1025 Oregon Street. Friends may gather for a time of visitation and support from 11:00 A.M. until the time of the service. Inurnment will be at Lake View Memorial Park.
