Obituary

Richard J. Shields, age 83, of Oshkosh, died Wednesday, December 10, 2014. Born on August 29, 1931, in Milwaukee, the son of Charles and Esther (Lubner) Shields, Richard was a mail carrier in Milwaukee for 42 years.
A proud, patriotic veteran of the Korean War, Richard received the Purple Heart while serving with the U.S. Army. He was a member of the DAV, American Legion, VFW, US Postal Carriers Union, Elks Club, Milwaukee and Fond du Lac Pigeon Racing Clubs. Richard was also a member of St. Jude the Apostle Parish, serving as an usher for many years at St. Vincent Catholic Church.
Survivors include three children, Anne (Lee) Moericke of Lomira, Amy (Rusty) Bender of Kenosha, and Amber Shields of Fond du Lac; six grandchildren, Paul Allen, Benjamin, Ashland, Elias, Abraham, and Elysia; a sister, Gerry (Chuck) McLarnon of Greensboro, Georgia; a brother, Ralph (Nancy) Shield of West Bend; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Preceding Richard in death is his son, Anthony Shields, parents, and a sister, Dolores Shields.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, December 20, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. in St. Jude the Apostle Parish, St. Vincent Catholic Church, 1225 Oregon Street, with Reverend Mathew Simonar officiating. A time of visiting and sharing of memories will be held on Saturday from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the church. Full Military Honors will be given at the church following the funeral services.
