Robert "Bob" William Butzlaff, age 85, of Omro, died peacefully early Tuesday morning, December 6, 2016, at Omro Care Center. He was born October 23, 1931, in Oshkosh, the eighth of ten children to William and Bessie (Bartols) Butzlaff. Bob grew up in Oshkosh and worked at the Oshkosh Foundry until he enlisted in the United States Air Force on March 30, 1951. He was sent to Korea and was an Airman 2nd Class in the 6149th Tactical Control Group, calling in airstrikes behind enemy lines. He was honorably discharged from the service on April 5, 1955 and shortly thereafter was hired as a Personal Care Technician at Winnebago Mental Health Institute. While at work he met, and married the love of his life, Barbara Schroeder on January 4, 1964. A son, Robert A. was born on May 19, 1965, a daughter, Amy, on July 3, 1967 and a second daughter, Susan, on March 29, 1972. Bob was an avid Packer fan, and his children learned much colorful language from their father during football season. After 34 years of employment, Bob retired from Winnebago to enjoy his time crafting, playing on computers and later playing with his grandchildren. He was always full of stories of his childhood and military career.Bob will be greatly missed by his wife, Barbara; children, Robert (Nancy), Amy and Susan (Rich) Stadler; grandsons, Alec and Billy; granddaughters, Aubrey, Evyn and Ella; step-grandchildren, Nicholas, Amanda, Leah and Terri; step-great grandchildren; brother, William Jr. and sisters, Dolores (Russel) Swenson and Juanita Becker, along with numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and in-laws. Bob was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Donald, Norman and Richard; and his sisters, Marion Wolff, Ruth Milner and Jeanette Miller.The family will receive relatives and friends on Monday, December 12, 2016 at the funeral home from 11:00 A.M. until the time of the Memorial Service at 1:00 P.M. with pastor Michael Lillienthal officiating. Burial will follow at Lakeview Memorial Park, Oshkosh with Military honors being performed by American Legion Post 234 of Omro. The family would like to invite those in attendance back to the family home for a light meal at 5:00 P.M. after the burial. The family would like to thank Aurora Medical Center for their help in the initial trauma that faced Bob earlier in his convalescence. They would also like to thank the wonderful staff at Bethel Home and Omro Care Center for their care of Bob in his final days. They appreciate the loving care Bob received from everyone.
