Robert J. "Bob" Dettlaff, age 79 of Oshkosh, died at Mercy Medical Center on Monday, December 11, 2006. He was born to Rupert and Sophia (Metko) Dettlaff on February 5, 1927. On September 25, 1948 he married Grace Manthey in Grace Lutheran Church. They enjoyed 58 years together.

Bob was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. He was a roofer by trade and worked as a custodian at Oshkosh West for many years prior to retirement. He was a family oriented, caring, Christian who enjoyed woodworking. He constructed many items for his family.

Bob is survived by his wife: Grace; children: Wayne (Tracey) Dettlaff, Bruce Dettlaff, Ruth Ann Simpson, Carolyn (Alan D.) Horton, Lorraine Stewart, Russell (Karen) Dettlaff, Gregory (Mary) Dettlaff, and Brian (Cindy) Dettlaff; twenty-two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He is further survived by siblings: Virginia (Arthur) Borski, Kathleen Kitzman, Lois Eaton, Patricia (Daniel) Becker, Donald (Marlene) Dettlaff, Gerald (Rose Mary) Dettlaff, Marlyn (Glen) Gutsmiedl, Judith Friar, Gloria (Dale) Smith, James (Karen) Dettlaff, David (Marilyn) Dettlaff, Thomas Dettlaff, Mary Jane (Ronald) Bartels, and Glen Dettlaff; and many nieces and nephews. His parents preceded him in death as well as sons-in-law: Gary R. Stewart and Cecil Simpson; and sisters: Dorothy Phillips and Ruth Dettlaff.

Funeral services for Bob will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, December 14, 2006 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 338 North Eagle Street, Reverend David Pagel officiating. Family and friends are invited to attend a time of visitation and support at the church on Thursday, from 9:00 A.M. until the time of the service. Interment will be in Lake View Memorial Park.
