Robert C. "Rob" Englund, age 56, of Oshkosh, died Friday morning, May 13, 2011, at Mercy Medical Center. He was born August 14, 1954, in Oshkosh, to Gene and Eunice (Schneeberger) Englund. Rob was well-known in Oshkosh, often seen riding his three-wheeled bike throughout the community. For the last 22 years he lived with his brother Jim and sister-in-law Shari who devoted much of their lives to providing Rob with a loving and supportive environment. He will be remembered as a loving, caring free spirit who was a friend to all. He motivated people to think beyond themselves and made those who knew him better for the experience. The desire to provide Rob and others with developmental disabilities the opportunity to live to their full potential inspired his parents, Gene and Eunice, to work toward the establishment of Residential Care for the Developmentally Disabled, now Clarity Care.
Rob was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church, their special needs fellowship, and the Very Special Arts Choir , where he enjoyed being an accompanist on his harmonica. Other pleasures included Special Olympics bowling, fishing, and the companionship of family dogs.
Surviving family members include five siblings, Gene (Jill) Englund Jr. of St. Petersburg, Florida, Susan (Jim) Monroe of Westerville, Ohio, Jim (Shari) Englund of Oshkosh, Barbara (Bob) Friedrich of Stevens Point, Wisconsin, and Kate (Chris) Pfaendtner of Larsen, Wisconsin; many nieces and nephews. He will also be missed by his lifelong friend Karen Beerntsen. Preceding Rob in death are his parents, grandparents, and a nephew, Peter Friedrich.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 17, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. in Our Savior Lutheran Church, 1860 Wisconsin Street, with Reverend Kemp Jones officiating. A private family interment will follow the services. A time of visitation and sharing of memories will be held on Monday, May 16, 2011, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Seefeld Family of Funeral Chapels, 1025 Oregon Street, and also on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the church.
