Robert E. Merkley, age 90, passed away August 22, 2007 at Mercy Medical Center. He was born August 11, 1917 in the Town of Vinland to Agnes K and Robert R. Merkley. Robert married Virginia Ann Sager on November 28, 1946. They lived in the Town of Clayton for 45 years, where he was a dairy farmer. They moved to the Oshkosh area in his retirement.

He loved hard work and enjoyed doing woodworking, fishing, day trips to all parts of the state of Wisconsin, especially Big Flats, and caring for his family.

Robert is survived by his wife of 60 years, Virginia; two sons: Richard of Weyauwega and Leland of Larsen; two daughters: Mary Jane Zimmerman of Park Falls and Helen Shanklin of Winneconne. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters: Bernice and Dorothy Merkley; and two sons-in-law, Russ Zimmerman and Terry Shanklin.
