Robert P. Nipko, age 93, of Berlin, died early Thursday morning, November 3, 2011 at Berlin Memorial Hospital. Bob was born June 2, 1918, in the town of Poygan, the son of Paul and Lola (Strieck) Nipko. He attended and graduated from Omro High School.
Bob married Bettie J. McCann on May 15, 1945 in California and enjoyed 66 years of marriage before she passed away on August 8, 2011. Bob had joined the U.S. Navy prior to World War II and served in the Pacific Theater during the war. He was a Pearl Harbor survivor and fought in the Battles of Guadalcanal and the Coral Sea. Following his service in the Navy, Bob worked as a farmer, then as an electrician in the oil fields of Texas. After working in the oil fields, he moved to Berlin where he worked as a projectionist at the Berlin Theater for many years and finally worked for and retired from the Berlin Post Office. Bob took great pleasure in his family, camping, fishing, golfing, board games and music. He was an avid student of History, enjoyed reading and PBS Documentaries. Bob was an active member of the Berlin United Methodist Church for many years, the Wells-Krause VFW Post # 2925, Lions Club and the Knights of Columbus.
Bob is loved and will be missed by his children, Paul (Anita) Nipko and Nancy Floyd, both of Berlin; grandchildren, Stephanie (David Curtis) Floyd, Chad (Krysten) Floyd, Rob Nipko, Kate Nipko; great grandchildren, Sage Floyd and Kaya Floyd; other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Bettie; and sister, Adeline Kafer.
The family will greet relatives and friends on Saturday, November 5, 2011, at the Berlin United Methodist Church, 178 W. Cumberland St., Berlin, WI from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Aaron Alfred officiating. Burial will follow in the Eureka Cemetery. A memorial in Bob's name is being established.
