Dr. Robert F. Schoenwetter was called home on Wednesday, April 28, 2010 at Evergreen Retirement Community. He was born on January 11, 1915 in Beaver Dam, the son of Dr. Albrecht and Leona Schoenwetter. Bob graduated from Beaver Dam High school, attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison for his pre-dental work and then transferred to Marquette University School of Dentistry for his D.D.S. degree. Following this he entered the University of Illinois, Department of Orthodontics, for his Master of Science degree. He started the practice of Orthodontics in Oshkosh in 1940.
In early 1942 he entered the US Navy and proudly served his country during World War II. He was stationed at the Submarine Base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, and at the Wisconsin General Hospital of the University of Wisconsin-Madison. On December 2, 1944, he married the love of his life, Sue Viering and together they shared 62 years of marriage before her passing on July 26, 2007.
Dr. Schoenwetter attended post-graduate courses at the University of Minnesota, Northwestern University and the University of Illinois. He published 18 original scientific research papers and presented two papers in Paris to the European Orthodontic Society. He was President of the Oshkosh Chamber of Commerce, the Winnebago County Dental Society, the Fox Valley Dental Society, the Oshkosh Downtown Rotary Club, and the Mid-western component of the Edward Angle Orthodontic Society.
Dr. Bob will always be remembered and loved by his three daughters: Jody (Bob) Orthey of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Jill Sperry of Yorkville, Illinois, and Jane (Larry) Johnson of Oshkosh; his cherished grandchildren: Chris (Alessandra) Orthey, Marni (Ryan) Lamberty, Janie (Zac) Rockett, Karen (Brian) Weber, Andrew (Gretchen) Sperry, Tim, Mike, Dave and Annie Johnson; great-grandchildren: Annelise, Isabella and Alex Orthey, Eden and Wilson Lamberty, Lucca Rockett, Megan and Claire Weber, and Charlie Sperry. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sue; parents; son-in law, Tom Sperry; and his brothers, Howard and Raymond Schoenwetter.
