Robert (Bob) E. Wolff Sr., age 88, of Neshkoro and formerly of Omro, passed away unexpectedly as the result of an auto accident on Tuesday, March 20th, 2018. He was born in Oshkosh on April 22, 1929 to Edward and Theresa (Grable) Wolff. With some birth certificate creativity, he joined the US Navy at age 16 and served as a Seaman second class from early 1946 to late 1947.
He retired from Wisconsin Axle after 30 years and was fortunate to enjoy a long retirement. He was truly a "jack of all trades" and was always there to help family and friends with projects. Early in his retirement, he enjoyed gardening, feeding the birds, painting, going to Las Vegas with Phil and Joyce Monahan, and time well spent at the family cabin in Tomahawk. Bob was an excellent outdoorsman who especially enjoyed hunting and fishing; he rarely came home empty-handed. In his later retirement, he enjoyed going out for a good drink and meal, sitting by the campfire, tinkering in his woodshop, going to the casino, watching old westerns, his cat, Tommy, and, most recently, making maple syrup. A special thanks goes out to Gene and Linda Vetrone for their companionship and help the last several years, as well as his nieces, Susan Ertmer and Karen Miller, both being a big help to Mavis and Bob.
He is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Mavis, as well as their three children: Robert Jr. (Joan), Steven, known to most as Scott (Sharon), and Michael (Bonnie) as well as four grandchildren: Jodi, Matthew, Troy, and Casey, and four great-grandchildren: Logan, Lilly, Athena, and Emily. He is further survived by a sister, Beatrice Bolar, and a brother-in-law, Richard (Judy) Schutz, and many nieces and nephews. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, his in-laws, Florence and Edward Schutz, four sisters: Phyllis Van Lauren, Lorraine Zelhofer, Dorothy Fitzgibbon, and Jeanette Bender, along with two sisters-in-law: Elaine Reinert and Carol Vogt.
A memorial gathering will be held on Thursday, March 29, 2018, from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Kwiatkowski Funeral Home, 425 Jefferson Ave., in Omro. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established.
